Father Miguel Hidalgo

He was known as the Father of Mexican Independence after he led the first revolution in New Spain. He was in his 50's, and he was also a priest. He was a member of the upper class and was a property owner who received income from rents. He plotted revolution deep in country side of Bajio.

Upset at mistreatment of Indians, very happy at San Nicolas Obispo College where he was replaced as rector.

Led Indian followers in attack on Guanajuato where he lost control of Indian followers and they looted and burned the town.

Hidalgo and his advisors directed Indians in the parish to manufacture weapons, fought Royalist Army near Guadalajara because they got defeated. Led followers in fight towards Zacateras and Hidalgo got captured there

Didn't accomplish much. They won the battle at Monte de la Cruces and Hidalgo gave his famous speech "Grito de Dolores".

The Hidalgo revolt accomplished very little, except to unite the rest of Mexico against it. It lasted nearly 6 months.
